Naoki-chan’s 2nd-year-old birthday party – Naoki ちゃん 2 歳誕生会

Last Saturday October 30, 2010, my wife and me were invited to Naoki-chan’s 2nd birthday party. Naoki-chan is the son of my ex-colleague, Scott-san and Makiko-san.
週末 2010/10/30(土) は、昨 2009 年に引き続き、今年も以前の勤務先の同僚 Scott さんの、牧子さん夫妻の子供である、なおき (Naoki) ちゃんの誕生会に呼んでもらって、妻と一緒に行ってきました。
The party was held at the shared party room of TOKYO MEGA CITY housing complex. Someone drew cute illustration with “2 years old” message on the white board of the party room.
今年も Scott さんが住んでいるマンションのパーティールームでの開催です。ホワイトボードには “2 years old” というメッセージとともに、かわいいイラストが描かれていました。

The hair styles of Naoki-chan and Scott-san are the same. Makiko-san cuts them. The shape of the tail end is cute.
なおきちゃんと Scott さんは髪型が同じです。どちらも牧子さんが切っているそうです。一番後ろのところが、ちょっとしっぽのようになっているのがかわいいです。

2 candles were set on the birthday cake. Naoki-chan doesn’t understand he is expected to blow out them, so Scott-san and Scott-san’s mother blew them out on behalf of Naoki-chan.
誕生日ケーキには 2 本のロウソクが立てられました。なおきちゃんはまだロウソクを消すということがわかっていないようで、Scott さんと、Scott さんのお母さんが代わりに吹き消していました。

On this day, Naoki-chan didn’t want to be held by people other than Scott-san. If someone had tried to hold him, he said “bye bye” that is diplomatic way of him to say “No”.
I managed to hold him.
この日は、なおきちゃんはお父さん以外に抱っこされるのを嫌がっていました。抱っこしようとすると、「バイバイ」と言って手を振ります。この「バイバイ」というのは、なおきちゃん語で「イヤ」という意味であるらしいです。
しかし一瞬だけ嫌がらない瞬間があって、抱っこさせてもらいました。

Probably because I couldn’t hold him stable, he soon became unwilling to stay within my arms and had gone to Scott-san. I approached him again, but he tried to push me out.
しかし抱っこするのが下手で安定しないこともあるのか、すぐに嫌がって Scott さんの方へ移動していってしまいました。その後、もう一度近付くと、「こないで」という感じで手で押し返されてしまいました。

かなし～。
He could only crawl last year, but this year he can run. He doesn’t speak but says some limited vocabularies such as “dad”. I was impressed how fast a kid grows up.
去年はハイハイしかできなかったなおきちゃんですが、今年は元気に走り回っていました。そして Scott さんを「ダッド」など、いくつか言葉もちゃんとしゃべります。子供の成長の早さには驚かされます。
I’m looking forward to meeting him again next year and see his growth.
来年はどんな風に成長しているのか楽しみです。
